A Universe of Wishes by Dhonielle Clayton

I don't usually read short story anthologies because I like a longer narrative and it's jarring to me to immediately go into an unrelated story, but I was looking for an ebook to read on my phone and this seemed like the type of thing that was easy to pick up and put down, and I love YA fantasies. I really enjoyed this collection, some had an entire story arc while others seemed like this was just the beginning of a whole story that I'm hopeful could still be written. A few were set in the world of the author's previous books. I read the [b:A Great and Terrible Beauty|3682|A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1)|Libba Bray|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1284558475l/3682._SY75_.jpg|2113193] books by [a:Libba Bray|2526|Libba Bray|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1206563678p2/2526.jpg] over 10 years ago so I was hazy on the details, but I felt like Bray's story of Gemma "The Scarlet Woman" was the one that definitely seemed like it was just the first chapter of an entire story. I also liked that there were a couple of science fiction stories, and then the final story "Habibi" by [a:Tochi Onyebuchi|7324271|Tochi Onyebuchi|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/m_50x66-82093808bca726cb3249a493fbd3bd0f.png] was the closest to realistic fiction, except of course how they were able to receive each other's letters, and was a good conclusion. There was a Cinderella story and a great Rapunzel retelling: "Longer than the Threads of Time" by [a:Zoraida Córdova|4824952|Zoraida Córdova|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1586829789p2/4824952.jpg] (would love the rest of the story!). Overall a fun read.
