The Lost Road and Other Writings by Christopher Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien

challenging informative slow-paced

4.0

I may have lost absolute track of any and all Silm drafts and what happens when and where, but I genuinely still enjoyed this greatly - both the accounts of the Númenórian eras, as well as the more linguistic developments of yet another handful of Silm drafts. Like maybe I am just cooked on the Silmarillion for good but even the smallest changes in detail are still SO interesting to me. In so many ways, these later drafts really are close to the published Silm now, but then there are also still a bunch of small but weighty details that are not, and each and every one of them is frankly fascinating.

Also, I do say this every time, but Chris Tolkien's work and commitment to this remains absolutely mind-blowing.
