This reads more as a summery than a story. The setting highlights how crappy their world is, with the incredible economic inequalities. The other nations is "crime ridden" unlike their "kingdom of order." This is questioned when it looks like there's a slaver-ring happening within the boarders of their kingdom. The descriptions of the poor living conditions of the town near the boarder that Katarina gives, and then dismissed by Larna, seem especially insensitive since Maria and Sora, who grew up in these conditions, are right there. Less that they shouldn't be described, but more so that they were lucky enough to get out but this is not addressed at all. Not that I was expecting it to be, but it seems like a oversight. The parts that worked did work well, and it gives the readers exactly what the book tells us it wants to give us- Katarina being dense and surrounded by people who love her.
This volume is not as repetitive as pervious entries, though I must admit I skimmed the last chapter for it's "meanwhile back at home the harem misses Katarina" montage.
