Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

Even having read this book, I'm not sure I could describe it well enough to tell you what it's about; suffice it to say that this is one of those books where you just have to go along for the ride, make peace with being thoroughly confused at first, and know that you will end up in a satisfying place at the end. It's truly inventive and unlike anything I've read before (though much of it made me think of Donna Tartt's The Secret History). It's also propulsive -- I read the entire thing in one day, and that was also a work day!
