I know that this is a deeply personal story by Kacen, and I admire them so much for putting this out in the world. There’s a beautiful passage in the book about separation of the art from the artist after the horrid gallery of Felix before his transition, done without his permission, that really spoke to me.
This is a deeply political book even though politics are not explicitly stated, Kacen weaves the story in with actual facts about the Pride movement and the very real questioning that people go through, including the performative allies.
I highly recommend that people read this, whether they are questioning or not. And it’s an important read for parents as well.
