Fortuna Sworn is about Fortuna, who is one of the last of her kind, a Nightmare, who seeks to find and rescue her brother Damon. And she would do anything to save him, including marrying the mysterious Colith, king of the Unseelie Court. This was a great story that weaved the human world with the magical world of the faerie, werewolves, and other creatures. The world in this book just sucked me in with all the lore and the cruel cunning of the manipulative faeries.

What I loved about Fortuna was that she had no issue being mean in this book 🤣 Oftentimes, we have human protagonists, and they typically run on this nice human moral compass, so if they get tricked by faeries, they're gonna cry about it and *try* to get back at them. But Fortuna isn't human (though she was raised in the human world) so maybe was taken aback by mistakes for a minute before she was rolling up her sleeves like "Okay, let's play this game." And she pretty much matched their cruelty and cunning. 🔥🔥 It was so satisfying and unhinged, and I'm here for it. But don't think she's just *mean*. (Maybe she is and that's a-okay.) But her main goal in this book was to do anything to save her brother, her last family in the world, and that's so sweet.

I wasn't super sold on the romance between Colith and Fortuna. His presence wasn't really there as much as Laurie and Oliver, but this was just the first book. Perhaps the second book Colith will be more present and forthcoming. Romance was an undercurrent in this book specifically to introduce the world and focus on Fortuna sacrificing pretty much everything to save her brother.

I have my theories and I'm excited to continue.
