Wow. That was very different from the TV show. It was good, though. Not shout it on a mountain top good; just good.

The world building was incredibly easy to slip into. I actually prefer the blonde Elena from these books to Nina's portrayal in the show. The most glaring difference has to be Damon and Stefan themselves. And the lore, any old human will do to let a vampire in to my house, eh? Don't know if I like that.

Somehow I actually prefer Caroline the way she is in the books; vindictive. Somehow the town being named Fell's Church makes more sense than Mystic Falls. Reading this book something clicked into place for me. I now get the characters motivations and actually like the story for once.
