South to America: A Journey Below the Mason Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation by Imani Perry

5.0

Imani Perry’s writing is almost too beautiful to be nonfiction. It was almost so poetic it was distracting. I listed on audio and found myself rewinding often because I was caught up in some amazing way she wrote something that I missed the facts. It wasn’t a bad thing-it was great. I liked the style nonlinear storytelling with the linear travel from one state to the next. I loved the memoir stories interspersed with history spanning hundreds of years. It was challenging, informative, and so lyrical.
