Beach House Memories by Mary Alice Monroe

5.0

The love story of Lovie and Russell. Although this is the 3rd book written by Mary Alice Monroe, she suggests reading it second. So glad I did. Beach House Memories is a delightful blend of romance, nature, and women's issues. Lovie is a young mother of two who has a strong passion for the sea turtles and hatchlings of South Caroline Isle of Palms beach. Some of her struggles are unique to the 1970s in the south, such as the expectation that women should stay at home with the children. But the importance of raising children while trying to maintain some sense of individualism remains the same today. Mary Alice reveals the struggle Lovie faces on whether to make her marriage work and keep her family together (as all properly raised southern ladies of the time were taught) or pursue her passion and loves. MAM brings her personal knowledge and passion of the loggerheads to this book through Lovie. A wonderful summer read whether sitting on the beach or your back deck enjoying the warm summer breezes.
