The Colour Out of Space and others by H.P. Lovecraft

4.0

A quick one, mainly picked up as an introduction to H.P. Lovecraft (can you believe I have never read any Lovecraft? – Shocking, I know).

This little book has 3 stories: The Colour Out of Space, The Outsider and The Hound. Very short, very easy to read and very good! The Colour Out of Space was his favourite – and I found it compelling and creepy – the story of a meteorite and how it destroys a family. I liked the way it combined science fiction and good old fashioned horror – and partly what scared me most was the fact that the scientists had no answers…

The Outsider wasn’t even creepier – a story about an individual who is trapped and lonely, and The Hound was a story about grave diggers, who, after stealing the “forbidden Necronomicon” are haunted by a hound, who kills one of them and drives the other to suicide.

I enjoyed this collection of short stories, and it has whet my appetite to go out and find more Lovecraft stories. Fantastic!
