Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid
1.0
I absolutely loved my first two reads from TJR and decided to read through her earlier work. This is her earliest published novel and I have a hard time believing this is the same author, actually. This book was highly overwritten and under edited. The dialogue and characters didn’t feel believable, which is so in contrast to what I’ve experienced from TJR in her more recent work. The whole premise of the book is how wonderful the male lead, Ben, was, but he seemed very much like an immature, slightly misogynistic average twenty-something man. The female lead, Elsie, comes across as whiny, having poor boundaries, and sometimes self-centered. It was hard to finish this book.
If I had picked this book up first, I probably wouldn’t be reading any more TJR. But there is something pretty wonderful about seeing where an author started and where she has come to. So I’ll keep reading TJR’s backlist of novels and I’m excited about seeing that transformation for myself. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary to start with this one, though. You can take my word for it - TJR has grown exponentially as an author in less than a decade.
