Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham

2.0

Series starts off a little shaky. In fact, every other person I've mentioned this series to, has read this volume and not gone further for this reason. My take is that Bill Willingham is not fantastic at dialogue. This has been, and continues to be my main hang-up with the series. Though he finds his groove a little later, the plotting in this first volume is not as tight or compelling as later volumes. Possibly, it's because this story arc focuses on a silly scheme, and only briefly sets up the larger conflict with the Adversary. Also, Marcus Buckingham doesn't come in on art until Volume 2, and he's way cooler.
