I had a good time with this one. I really enjoyed how both of them were unused to other people caring for them so it was really sweet to see both of them step into that role for each other. I loved their banter. It was really funny to see them caring for each other through sass rather than straight up softness. Seeing her joking about poisoning him while making sure he takes his vitamins and eats well was such a joy. The author really showed us how well they fit together which made the ending very satisfying.

I enjoyed the B plot with her family as well as the main plot. It's easy to slip into a role with your family and not know how to step out of it when it no longer fits. I loved how none of her family members were caricatures. When the issues are finally talked about they respond like normal people with their own motivations and struggles. It was very realistic.
My one quibble is that I wish the story was told through dual pov. The author did a great job of showing us what Hayes was feeling most of the time but I do feel like we lost something not getting to see his pining in full force.
