The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

4.0

When 15-year-old Chloe finally hits puberty she suddenly starts seeing ghosts everyone. After a terrifying encounter she has a breakdown at School and Chloe's father and Aunt Lauren send her to a group home to recover. It's only for a few weeks but the longer she stays at Lyle house the more Chloe learns about her powers and the existence of others gifted with extra-sensory powers.

This was a fast-paced, good read. I really enjoyed the book and liked most of the characters. Chloe can be a bit grating at times but for the most part it was a well-plotted, well-written book. Great description and dialogue. Nice twist at the end. My only major annoyance was the ending - which wasn't an ending at all. Argh! I don't like books that end with a cliffhanger. It's all well and good if you can get your hands on the next book immediately but if not this is a special kind of torture. Armstrong is as ruthless in that regard as Rachel Caine is with her vampire series. Let's hope the Darkest Powers books come out quickly. I already have the second one on request at the library.
