it has a habit of repeating. the focus is good, the female characterization not so much. the reader makes this work. audiobook shines

update YEARS later. 2020

I've been reading this series for nearly a decade. It is better than his original series. It has much more focus which makes you care about careers and you can better follow what is going on. He does have issues building out characters besides the original cast. exception super side characters like Philp, and His first in command. Those work but characters he punches into Kris main orbit without putting them in the background first he has issues building. This plagues the series as you go on because kris grows and can't be in certain places. When you finally get into the space battles which are mostly later in the series where you get fuller space battles it's very good. One of the most annoying things about early kris Longknife is the sing-song nature. She doesn't feel like she's building herself it's annoying. Also, the boob stuff gets annoying too. No character can be perfect though. The beats of kris Longknife are really good overall. I am always left wanting a little more in places and for the most part, almost every book after the first 3ish is well pace and filled with more space stuff. Would I recommend this book? Yes.
