I very nearly gave up on this in the middle because as cosy as it was, I just wanted a tiny bit more plot. However I looked up some spoilery reviews, found out that the plot was about to begin and stuck it out. I'm pleased I did because I ended up enjoying the second half a lot more but definitely have mixed feelings overall. There's a bit of a romance in this which I didn't really care about, mainly because as this is a prequel, I knew it wasn't going to last, but also because it wasn't as developed as I would have liked. I liked Legends and Lattes but didn't become particularly attached to Viv. I liked the other characters more and that was also the case here. The book was worth reading for Satchel alone but I also loved Fern and Potroast.
