A Manual for Cleaning Women: Selected Stories by Lucia Berlin

5.0

I wish I would have discovered Lucia Berlin sooner, this book has left an imprint on my soul. The words flow with intensity while bringing forth images in your mind that put you right in the middle of the story. Each story tied together with a simple string that weaves through the book till the end. Through the years of alcoholism, sitting with her dying sister, the memories of childhood, motherhood, and marriage Lucia Berlin tells a story that will have you crying along with her, feeling dispair during the darkest parts, and cheering when something finally goes right.
