Penny has liked Sam for a long time & he has always been there for her. When she comes back to her hometown for her brother, John’s, funeral, she reconnects with Sam and things heat up quickly. Penny realizes she needs more time after her John’s death to grieve and goes to stay with Sam & his brothers in Liberty, UT. The town of Liberty is trying to rebuild after a flood and Sam with his brothers are all helping. But when Penny gets to Liberty, there is a strange illness going around the small town and they need all the medical help they can get. While Penny works in the clinic, Sam is trying to help the mayor figure out what is causing all these people to be sick but someone doesn’t want the cause to be found. Penny and Sam’s relationship develops fast as they spend all their time together when they are not working. When Penny stumbles on a lead for the virus, Sam will have to work fast to get answers.
