Mina is on the run and she needs to put as many miles as she can between her and her ex business partner. But on her run to get away she has an accident that will end up changing everything in her life and then some! She was hoping to make it a lot further than she did. Which was in the middle of a town named Bearfield. Even though she’s freaked out, she feels like if she tells the officer who greets her exactly who is chasing her she’ll bring more hell to him and those around them. After all this is a sleepy little town in the middle of nowhere. So what does she do? She pushes his buttons until he arrests her and she asks for a lawyer.
Lucky for Matt, he’s the man to come in and help! As a bear shifter he and his family keep their true identities a bit of a secret. Living in a small tourist town he understands that if any work comes your way, you take it. So he gladly answers the call for help. What he doesn’t expect is to meet his mate. Yup, his bear stands up and looks to impress her and win her over. But first, he needs to know the truth.
She ends up telling him the truth and asks for his help in keeping her safe. In the process, she meets his one brother who walks around in his birthday suit. But when he does wear clothes, it’s winnie the pooh shirt! She finds about the bear inside of Matt, his ability to deflect and heal quickly. They get shot at, found by the bad guys. Promises of food, lust, love and safety mixed in this kind of entertaining story.
Loved (positive): I have to say, the humor is what kept me reading. Jacqueline could have easily gone the usual way with the shifter story. But she threw in some unexpected things (like the other shifter types and powers/abilities), a bunch of steam and laughter. I thought it was great for such a quick read. Yes, some of the humor was corny but it’s what made me enjoy it more. I love to laugh!
Not sure: (negative) I wasn’t good with the movie reference. It just seemed too obvious for me. Especially since it’s my favorite movie. I think that part could have been done a bit different.
Overall: Well through my enjoyment and not sure moments of the book, I found it to be pretty good. I’ve read a lot of paranormal books in the last few years and I have a deep appreciation for any author that can lead you away from what you “know” or expect. It’s in fact one of my favorite genres to read. I love to learn something new and love to laugh. For me, this hit both of those easily.
