Jim Henson's the Power of the Dark Crystal Vol. 1, Volume 1 by Simon Spurrier

2.0

I don't really know what to say about this one. On one hand I liked the story, especially the whole plot about the firelings, but on the other hand it felt very unimaginative and kind of bland to me - especially the whole part with the cultish status of the crystal, the rude gelflings and the resurrection of the skeksis - it didn't really spark my interest. To be honest I mainly cared about Thurma and Kensho's stories and will probably continue the series only to see where they'll go.
The art was fine and even exceptionally good in places (like the firefasting sequences and the spread with the breaking of the crystal) but most of the time it felt wayyy too smooth and polished to feel like Thra. Maybe it's my recent viewing of The Age of Resistance and it's choice of aesthetic that's colouring my view but I just didn't think 'Thra' when I looked at the environments and art in general when reading this comic.
