Girl, 11 by Amy Suiter Clarke

4.5

I loved the podcast episodes interspersed among the actual story. They read like an actual podcast, and I was so happy when I got to a podcast episode. I did read this as an ebook, but I’m sure it would be phenomenal as an audiobook.

Elle is a popular true crime podcaster who experienced trauma long ago (it’s hinted at but never explicitly discussed until later in the book). She tries to solve cold cases, and her most recent podcast season is about The Countdown Killer (TCK), a serial killer who integrates the numbers 3,7, and 21 into his methodical abductions and killings.

A listener’s daughter is abducted, and somehow the fan gets the police to hire Elle as a consultant. This seems to stretch plausibility, but - oh well - plot point, anyone? The Megan Goldin book series includes a podcaster working with the police as well. I'd say that this novel overall is as strong as that series, but the podcast pieces are stronger in this novel.

This is a very well done thriller.
