I really enjoyed reading ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS by Lindsey Kelk. It’s sweet, funny, lighthearted and yet grounded and self-reflective. It’s a modern day Cinderella story with a main character anyone can relate to.

Francesca “Fran” Cooper knows how to be an assistant. She’s gone from job to job assisting different employers, but never did she expect that she would ever be hired to be a personal assistant for famed singer and celebrity, Juliette. Juliette has developed a reputation for being needy and difficult, especially towards her assistants. After spending time together however on their way to Panarea, Italy where Juliette has been booked to perform at the exclusive Crystal Ball, Fran begins to see a sensitive side to her.

Following a series of events that makes Fran question her new budding friendship, she ends up stranded alone in Panarea. With access to Juliette’s hotel and wardrobe along with meeting a kind make-up artist, Fran decides to do something daring for once and crash the Crystal Ball. Once inside, she meets tall, dark, and handsome New Yorker, Evan, and together the two have a magical night they will never forget.

This book had the right amount of humor and romance while also touching on some personal subject matters, especially through Fran. I found myself rooting for her to be brave and take a chance on herself so she could be happy. She is honestly a good person and liked how she and Juliette bonded, making her realize how much she had been holding herself back. Their friendship is also a reminder how despite rumors and reputation, celebrities are just people who also have their own private problems and I liked how Fran was there to defend Juliette. Evan is honestly just the sweetest. There is a bit of instant love, but I liked how he and Fran got to know each other while exploring the Crystal Ball. The two of them at the carnival within the Ball and later literally dancing in the moonlight were lovely as they were charming.
