The Colour of Murder by Julian Symons

I liked it--the prose style was straightforward, spare, and what I think of as modernist (e.g. Hemingway, not that I every read him), which it turns out, surprisingly, I like. (Jane Austen is also perfectly straightforward, but incredibly witty).
If you like Gone Girl for its unreliable narration, sudden changes of viewpoint character, and central mystery element, you might enjoy this one for very similar reasons.
(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s). I feel a lot of readers automatically render any book they enjoy 5, but I grade on a curve!
