Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail by Ashley Herring Blake

it’s genuinely a shame i didn’t like this considering how much i enjoyed delilah green

it just read as very unnatural at times, i kept catching myself saying “nobody talks like that” or “that wouldn’t happen”. it’s such a throwaway line in the book but there’s one quote about how simon (a man in his 30s) was bullied for coming out as bi in high school (presumably in the late 00s) but that the bullying stopped when the quarterback came out as pan a week later. that line could’ve been thrown out. that wouldn’t have happened.

maybe it’s on me for seeking realism in my silly romance book but i don’t think the sweetening of reality does it for me yk. nobody talks like that and it bugged me the whole time i was reading

also why are there Zero Butches in this world. all of your characters are queer and not One Butch?? points away for lack of butches truly every book could use more butches there’s no reason at all that jordan couldn’t have been a butch (and no a butch isn’t just Woman In Suit) but unfortunately. 0 butches.

and don’t even get me started on “women and nonbinary people”. over and over and over. i am a transmasc nonbinary lesbian this just loops back around to Nobody Talks Like That. how do you know by looking at a tarot deck that it’s filled with women and nonbinary people. nonbinary people can also be amab. what do nonbinary people look like. quickly.
