This book is just so fantastic. Tracy Deonn really knows what she is doing with her characters and plot progression. I love that Bree, while being the main character and mostly right in her choices, is not perfect. She has flaws and makes poor, selfish decisions. Decisions that actually impact her and the plot. She is a human, a young teenage girl and that shows.

Also, while a little slow at times (not really a lot happening as they are on the run for most of the book), I never really felt like the book dragged at all. All of the diversions felt necessary to the plot and not just like side-quests to fill up time. Also, the times when there wasn’t any plot progression happening, we got to explore the characters in a meaningful way. We learned more about Bree, and William, and Alice, and Sel. We got to see Bree make poor choices (like risking everyone to save Nic), and we got to really spend time with Bree and Sel and see their relationship bloom in an authentic way that (while I will always be 100% team Nic), made me really feel their connection. I do think Sel and Brianna are cute together and I am excited to see how Tracy delves into these more complicated relationship dynamics she has set up.

I also can’t wait to see how she continues and concludes this series. Specifically, what happens with the themes she is explore, and how the Legendborn Cycle finally comes to a close.
