Poems in the Attic by Nikki Grimes, published in 2015. Age Level: 2nd-4th grade. Poems in the Attic is a collection of poems about a girl that stumbles across her mother's old keepsakes from her childhood. As she looks through them, she is brought back to the time that her mother was traveling around the world with her father, who was in the air force. These experiences remind her of the light that her mother was, as she reflects on her family history. I think that I could use this book as a group read aloud experience for my students whilst we are talking about different parts of the world and how they are different from each other. This book touches on those characteristics while also maintaining student interest.
