Wonder Twins Vol. 1: Activate! by Mark Russell

5.0

The Wonder Twins were always kind of a joke duo, but for some reason they felt more relatable than the other Justice League superheroes. While Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman all had detailed backstories involving the tragic loss of parents, the Wonder Twins just kind of appeared and seemed like they belonged more in a Scooby Doo cartoon. Well now Jayna and Zan get their own series and it’s one of the funniest superhero comics I’ve read in, well, forever.

In this series, they’re interning at the Justice League while they attend high school. Their superhero status doesn’t make them popular or even interesting to most of their peers. They’re also given menial tasks by Superman. Both these worlds collide when they discover a plot by the League of Annoyance (lower level villains than the Legion of Doom) that will use the Scrambler’s powers to transport people’s consciousness into other’s bodies (It’s the perfect equalizer - if you could suddenly become a street beggar in Jakarta, wouldn’t you start caring more about the poor?) Foiling the plot becomes more complicated when they realize their best friend is involved. Luckily, there’s a space monkey to help them out.
