Subliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior by Leonard Mlodinow

funny informative inspiring medium-paced

4.5

From a nonfiction standpoint this was a page-turner. Mlodinow broke down many aspects of how the unconcious functions, as far as scienctists have researched, in his words “a ménage à trois” of social psychology, cognitive psychology, and neuroscience. I read a lot of nonfiction so it may have been easier to digest with some background knowledge, but the author uses wit and research to describe what is really driving our decisions. It’s less Malcolm Gladwell, more college professor giving the most out of their lecture. Bonus: it’s written in a non-repetitive manner. Really amazing. I was sentimental at times as I reflected on how this plays out in my own life and have lots and lots of tabs so I can go back to… probably 40% of it regularly. I only gave it an imperfect rating because I need room to rate other books higher in case I come across them lol (based on past readings it’s at the top for sure)
