Well fuck.

I had the absolute time of my life reading this book and I’m actually mad that it’s over. I was originally drawn to this when I found out that it was inspired by The Princess Bride– a fact that was evident in the first few chapters (in a very positive way. I don’t think I’ve ever audibly laughed in such a short period of time as I did when starting this story)

Hoid’s narration offered humor and also, at times, some thought provoking passages (I highlighted several of them to send to my friends at random times so I can make them reflect and possibly even spiral)

I had an absolutely wonderful time getting to know all of the characters but I do wish we were given more insight into their backstories.

The ending did take me by surprise and once the initial shock settled, I realized just how stupid I was to not have noticed it sooner. It was right in front of my face the entire time and while I feel like a complete idiot, I thoroughly enjoyed being shocked by it.

This was enchanting, adventurous, whimsical and included wonderful storytelling, world building, and an easily digestible and fun magic system.

Four of the stars are for the story itself and the fifth one is for captivating me from beginning to end thus becoming one of my favorite reads.

Also, my first Brandon Sanderson book! How fun! I can’t wait for this man to consume my entire life and take all of my paychecks :)
