A beautiful poetic journey into the mundanity of everyday life. A collection of stories in which nothing really happens but you never wish anything did. I read this while in Paris and it made me experience the city in a more romantic, relaxed way. Nescio has a way of making you fall in love with the little, often overlooked parts of your environment and I think that’s exactly what I needed right now. I enjoyed some of the stories a little more than others, at times feeling as if the writer was only translating half of his vision into the page, not quite able to express the fullness of his sentiments. My favourite was The Little Poet, probably because I resonated with the character Dora the most. The world and the feelings that are described around her were a joy to read. A very introspective and lyrical collection.
