1.5 stars. Though the premise is compelling and I enjoyed Esther Yi's writing, I found the execution to be annoying and fragmented. I think the surrealistic approach for this topic was really interesting and there are moments that are 'crazy good' but the book never fully clicked for me. I was always interested to continue reading but the process ended up being annoying 75% of the time. I think when you get a sense of how crazy and surreal this book can get, nothing really surprises you afterwards. The exploration of being a fan and stan culture is good sometimes in an introspective way but it felt very disjointed and half cooked mostly. It was very much a case of I didn't care about the protagonist and her actions because apart from her actions, the story feels like it has a heart in only a few moments. I also felt like maybe I didn't understand something or I was missing a layer after finishing the book but after reading reviews, I don't think I was missing much at all because the exploration of the topics the book tackles wasn't That compelling.
