My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

3.0

I really didn't think I was going to like this book at all. To be honest, I really wasn't all that impressed. It's the kind of book that all the conservative (but popular) girls read in late middle school. And as I never really cared for those girls, I question why I ever picked it up. Nevertheless, I was strangely drawn into it. I suppose I wanted to know how the story ended, but I think I was really only in it for Campbell's character. Once his part of the story was resolved and the mystery of the dog was answered, I didn't really care about anyone else.

I should have better anticipated the surprise sad ending, but I didn't. I didn't cry or anything, but upon completion of the book, I snuck into my sister's room, told her she could have a kidney if she ever needed one, and gave her a hug. I suppose the ultimate effect this book had on me was a stronger urge to hug my sister and inspiration to think about organ donation for a couple of days. Nothing mind-blowing, but not quite uninteresting.
