The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab and Family by Ibtihaj Muhammad

5.0

This was just lovely. My kids have read about [b:Ibtihaj Muhammad|33590790|Ibtihaj Muhammad (Olympic Biographies)|Katie Lajiness|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1541484322l/33590790._SX50_.jpg|54403864] and I'm excited to share this with them. A sweet sibling story about a younger sister going to school. She's excited about school, but even more excited that her older sister is wearing her first hijab to school. There are some questions by curious students, and a few moments of verbal taunting by those who don't understand what the hijab is, but the focus of the story is very much on the beauty of the hijab, and how much she looks up to her older sister.

Gorgeously bold and animated illustrations by Hatem Aly, and an author's note accompanied by photos of Muhammad and her own sisters finish out the tale.
