Like a Love Song by Gabriela Martins

Let me start this review by prefacing that I’ve always had an inclination and an appreciation for the latinx culture, more specifically, the Hispanic culture. This may have been the first time I read a novel with a Brazilian main character and it changed my perspective on the cultural difference of the latinx community in the best way.
Now the book. There aren’t many fame orientated books where the leading lady is the famous person, no less both main characters are famous and for this very reason is why I loved this book. There was no Cinderella rescuing moment, it was just two people who love the art they create and put into the world trying to navigate fame at such a young and fragile age. But even so, it was more than that. I loved how Nati was struggling with her identity, with her culture, her personality and what she wanted to represent. I loved how she had anxiety but it wasn’t her main characteristic and I loved how she adored her friends and her mother. For William, I love how he stuck to his roots, and how much he cared for his family while also taking on his passion. They were destined from the beginning. And whilst the fake dating brought so much angst and cute moments, they truly had fallen for one another since the beginning and it was such a pleasant read!
