Beyond Reach by Karin Slaughter

4.0

I have really mixed feelings about this one. I tend to think it’s a shade under 4 stars but I ended up enjoying it a lot so I went higher rather than lower. I still hate Lena but at least I understood her motivations in this book a little more. I actually really liked reading about her background and where she came from and I think, given how much I dislike her character, I really enjoyed the fact that she had been so horribly wrong in her feelings about and her treatment of her uncle, Hank. I didn’t mind the death that came at the end of the book but I think that was because I accidentally stumbled across that piece of information beforehand when I had been trying to decide which series of Karin Slaughter’s books I should read first. So it wasn’t really shocking and therefore not terribly anger inducing. The thing I liked least was how the author played with the timeline. It made it confusing if you didn’t pay strict attention to the days listed at the opening of each chapter. Overall though a good book and a solid way to end her Grant series. I’m looking forward to reading the next series.
