The Beige Man by Helene Tursten
3.0
More adventures for DI Irene Huss, as the team investigates a car theft which turns into a gruesome hit-and-run. In the search for the perpetrators of the hit-and-run (as the abandoned car is found set on fire) the search team finds a root cellar whose lock has been forced, and instead of the car thieves, they find the recent body of a young girl.
Irene is drawn into the world of sex trafficking, and also into gang warfare as she is sent to the Canary Islands to help the locals on a murder investigation that has its roots in Sweden (or rather, the Swedish case has it's roots in the Canary Islands). Initially happy to get out of the Swedish winter and into the sun, the trip is very nearly deadly for Irene ....
Enjoyed it, but it felt like a return to the topic of the sexual assault of children by older men, with the emphasis on sex slavery and human trafficking rather than on pornography. Grim theme.
