Wild by Cheryl Strayed

This book was OK. It was engaging and an easy read, but I wish the author had focused more on her time in the trail and less on her stops along the way. There were fewer vivid descriptions of the sights of the PCT than I would have liked, and more descriptions of food purchased at each stop than I needed.

I am glad the author was able to complete her journey to get satisfaction, but this was largely due to dumb luck and the help of others. She did not plan or prepare adequately at all, and I was constantly amazed by her continual poor choices. She is a shining example of what not to do, and it is hard to root for her as an underdog because most of the situations are of her own creation.

This does not invalidate the legitimacy of her story out her right to share it, but the book was not exactly what I was expecting, either. I'm not sure if I would recommend this book. If I did, it would be with a hearty disclaimer.
