Losing the Field by Abbi Glines
3.0
I agree with a lot of the reviews below. I think Tallulah losing weight was for all the wrong reasons. She heard her crush laugh at her, so she did it to get revenge on him. It’s not a good message at all! But she doesn’t stick through too well. When she does go back to school, she follows none of her plans an instead falls for him almost right away. After being friendly with Asa, who still really needs his own book. Then the teacher thing. She isn’t a character winning any awards for me. I did not like her.
Nash makes up for her faults though. I think his comments on her is realistic. He’s always liked her. Selfish for not saying anything to her, but I also get it--high school kids are cruel. Although it’s not a good message for him to ignore her in fear of him being made fun of for dating the chubby girl, I do get the high school drama side of it. And the laughing at the comment was a misunderstanding. We’ve all done that. Zoned out and laughed at the convo because everyone else is. Can’t fault him there. But he took action now when she's “acceptable” I guess it is not great, but he is better than her. Redeemed himself a bit more.
Overall, with the plot and such, I enjoyed reading it; it was an okay book. I wasn’t a huge fan, but I also wasn’t thinking about DNFing it or anything. I was eager to finish and move onto other things.
