Berserk, Vol. 6 by Duane Johnson, Kentaro Miura

5.0

ok granted I’m only 6 volumes into a 40-something volume series, but I love it so far.

the past couple volumes have been solid 4 star reads for me. 4 star ratings aren’t very common for me, and my average rating hovers around 2.6. I consider 3 stars a good read.

however, there was just something in this volume that made this a 5 star read. It’s as if the groundwork was laid out perfectly in the last few volumes. this allowed us to understand the character’s and their motivations very well. guts doesn’t have many lines, however, through the plot, art and guts decisions, we see that he’s sensitive and caring. he uses violence as a shield. he doesn’t want to feel.

and griffith, it’s so hard to dislike him. you can see he’s manipulative, self-righteous and yet can spin his ideologies in a such an empowering manner. i also find myself moved by his monologues.

and casca, sweet casca. she’s rough around the edges but so fiercely loyal and devoted. in a presumably misogynistic world, she actively (and literally) fights for her agency. i understand why she is the way she is.

And UGH DONT GET ME STARTED ON GUTS SND CASCA AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I DIDNT SEE IT COMIGN???? the booktok girlies would eat this up OMLLLLLL… i didn’t know much about berserk before going into it. so I didn’t realize that there was romance in it. bye im so happy, this became 10x better. good plot + characterization + romance = my perfect story
