The Boat People by Sharon Bala

4.0

One of the things I love about good fiction is that it often teaches you something new about reality and makes you want to learn more. This is certainly true of The Boat People. This book is a searing criticism of the Canadian immigration system as it pertains to refugees. I loved the three unique perspectives and wanted more from each of the characters. The book was clearly crafted to criticize how Canada handles refugees but it also allows the complicated and grey nature of the problem to shine through. This is a wonderful book. 4.5 stars.
