Boy Meets Boy, by David Levithan

4.0

"Anybody else have an idea?" I ask.
"What about death?" Kyle says.

Best moment of the book lol. This book is like a quaint town folded between the pages. It has the tiny hilarious moments but also the heartbreaks of everyday life. I think David Levithan really captured that sense of feeling and place that I've never experienced.

"This is what I want. This is how it should be. I love you."
"Oh no!" I say. Out loud. I don't mean to, it just comes out.

I think it took me so long to read, despite being so short, because it drags out the story. But I know it fits the tone of the book, that kind of quiet realizations and conversations and little moments that make up our life. It's not terribly exciting, but it isn't meant to be an action adventure book. It is just the story of a high school kid and his struggles with his friends and new and old loves. So I rounded up.

"Hey," he says, "I've been looking all over for you."
"I've been looking for you, too," I say.
He says, "Cool," and it's cool. So cool.

God, I love the writing in the book. It's so good!!! It's like listening to an indie obscure song driving down an empty road and the sun's going down. I ADORE it. It's the simplest words, not even excessive flowery stuff but the words wrap themselves around you and you feel them.

"How come I've never seen him before?" I ask.
"Maybe you were just waiting for the right time to notice."

P.S. I know this is some kind of gay utopia, and it's not realistic with the transgender football quarterback or anything, but I loved it anyway. No one is questioned for the way they are. They are just them. And Bi rep!!! They actually SAY bisexual! Truly blessed.
