The It Girl by Ruth Ware
4.0
Hannah Jones has fulfilled her dream of being accepted into Oxford. Shes getting herself situated in her dorm when she meets her dorm-mate, April Clarke-Cliveden. April is gorgeous, bright, outgoing, and linked to money. She has another side too though, one that is vicious and uppity. In the eyes of Hannah and their peers, April is an It Girl.
April and Hannah become close friends and April brings Hannah into the devoted snd inseparable friend group. Hannah is welcomed with open arms and forms bonds with everyone in the group- Will, Hugh, Ryan and Emily.
The start of the year is looking to be a fantastic one for Hannah, but by the end of the year the nightmare begins. Hannah finds April dead in their dorm room.
A decade later, Hannah and Will are married and expecting their first child. The man convicted of killing April, John Neville, has died in prison. Hannah should be relived that its all finally over and put it behind her. But she cant. Something is nagging at her. Then a young journalist comes knocking and presents new evidence that Neville may have been innocent.
Hannah wants this behind her once and for all and shes going to do whatever it takes to figure out who was truly behind Aprils murder if not Neville, and how she could have gotten it so wrong.
Hannah begins to dig and uncovers that everyone had something to hide and a motive to kill April. But who did it? Was it actually Neville this whole time? And who can Hanna trust?
I enjoyed this read. It was fast paced with many suspects in the mix. I found some of the chapters weren’t totally relevant to the story line, but nonetheless weren’t boring to read. It switches between timelines “before” and “after” which helps put the storyline into perspective. I enjoyed that you were always second guessing yourself and doubting everyone as they all have means and motive.
