One of my “fomo reads” this year. I kept seeing this book with good reviews when my scrolling on TikTok got slowly worse and I just had to see what’s up. Granted my expectations were very low from being duped by Tiktok recommendations before but I was pleasantly surprised that this time around was a much better experience and I ended up actually liking the book!
What I loved the most was the storyline between the father and daughter. It was emotionally charged and had a bit of complexity that really interested me. I liked that it was woven throughout the book with the plot and done very nicely. This is the book's driving force for me since I didn’t care much for the romance, plot, or world-building. While it was well-balanced and captivating enough to hook a reader, it wasn’t anything spectacular. A tiny bit forgettable actually, as I’m writing this review several months after finishing the book and only remembering one stage of the trials but maybe that’s more on me. 🙈
I also liked Oraya. She was someone to root for without being entirely helpless. I liked her working together with the male lead during the trials though everything else was flat.
Overall, this read was a blend of “has its moments” and “just enough, don’t expect too much” which surprisingly makes for an entertaining read. I’m interested in continuing the series and hopefully, the books will only get better.
