Buried in the Sky: The Extraordinary Story of the Sherpa Climbers on K2's Deadliest Day by Peter Zuckerman

4.0

The book details the 2008 K2 climbing disaster, where 11 people lost their lives. So much went wrong; small mistakes compounded into bigger ones. The authors do a great job of providing contextual information about the surrounding Himalayas, including many cultural and religious traditions of the region's peoples. It becomes apparent that, while many of the Sherpas and porters begin working for the economic stability mountaineering provides, it soon becomes a passion (and obsession) to reach higher levels of difficulty and heights.
