Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by David Epstein

4.0

Before you continue reading my review, you should know that I'm a self-proclaimed generalist. Which means that in a lot of ways, there were moments of this book that seemed to reaffirm what I've been saying in job interviews for years: that my varied background is the perfect mashup to add to your team. The book itself is less prescriptive than it is myriad examples supporting the thesis that generalists reign supreme. The idea is that their (our) external learnings allows them to see things that others cannot and to bring those fresh insights and innovations to the table. It felt good to be on the winning side of this one. Whether you're interested in sports, medicine, contemplating an entrepreneurial venture, or something else entirely, there's a good chance you'll see some part of yourself within the pages as well.
