Big disappointment. The first half of the book was nothing new or interesting compared to the others, and had a lot of instances of cringey dialogue. The fire guy's whole pontification about life and death felt so forced, as well as literally all the monologues in here, particularly near the climax. I became extremely tired of those monologues about morality that weren't saying anything. Also, we are up to Book 6 now, and this is the place where you start to give some questions about morality to the Withered? Are you kidding me? Finally, the climax was also disappointing in its scope and outcome, and John's character arc felt forced, with no hints of subtlety in it or in any other themes the book tried to explore. This series started off so well, and then just fell flat on its face. :(
