The Disappeared by Kim Echlin

5.0

This is a beautifully-written, powerful novel. I even enjoyed reading the interview with the author at the back. This is a story about the importance of telling a person's story. The epitaph is from a survivor of a Cambodian prison, and it simply says, "Tell others." Another character in the book tells her tragic story and simply says, "I just wanted you to know." This book tells the history of the Canbodian genocide and gives a voice to the millions who died or went missing. I found it resonates with so many other tragedies and atrocities we hear about today.... the plight of refugees, the stories of First Nations people in Canada. I am so glad I found this book at a garage sale - it was a real treasure.
