Clearing the Shadows

David Baldacci King and Maxwell bk 04 First Family

4.5 stars - I hate that an innocent woman lost her life early in this, as is the way of the world sometimes, but the writing was fantastic! Sean King and Michelle Maxwell find themselves in the middle of lies and cheats, but what a wild ride it is.

And that explosive conclusion... Wow! I mean there were multiple things that blew up, literally and figuratively. Some I knew was coming, others I hoped would find their way to the surface.

Michelle's past, while uncovered in the last book, she remained unaware (hypnosis), comes back in new ways. It's heartbreaking for all involved and adds a new level of mystery to her world that requires her partner to help her sort through.

Some things carry over from prior books, but you can read this without those. Even with that, I'd encourage you read the series in order.

I borrowed a copy of the audio book. The narrator is Ron McLarty. It took me a little time to get used to the change in narrator, but I think Ron did a terrific job with the multitude of characters.
