The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love by bell hooks

3.0

There were some great parts to this-- specifically in understanding how patriarchy harms men and how women can internalize patriarchy and impose it upon the men in their lives.

I feel bad giving this three stars, because I love the way bell hooks writes and breaks down these tough concepts. But I couldn't ignore criticisms of its essentialist view of gender, and that non-heterosexual relationships weren't really mentioned or examined.

Overall, I'm glad I read it, and I think a lot of these concepts about masculinity should be more prevalent in feminist thinking. I loved All About Love by bell hooks, so I had high hopes for this one, but was a little disappointed.
