Necessary Restorations by Kate Canterbary

5.0

4.5 stars

I am such a sucker for emotionally damaged characters with a bit of grit to them and Sam and Tiel were as damaged as they come. They weren't perfect, but they learned how to be perfect together.

Up until around 85% this was going to be a full five-star for me. I loved watching their friendship grow into more, and their character development was excellent. Kate Caterbary's writing style is addictive, fluid and fun to read. The plot moved quickly, while avoiding the dreaded insta-love.

"I glanced up from her ankle and stopped attempting to extrapolate a good reason why any civilized person would wear a noisemaker, and shrugged."

This story also takes an interesting look at mental illness (and chronic illness), and made it relateable and important to Sam's development:

"My instincts told me to walk away from Miss Music Box, pop some pills to cage the ugly green anxiety monster, and hike down eleven flights of stairs."

My only concern, which is a fairly large one for some people,
Spoiler is a moment of what could be construed as cheating and then a several month-long separation of the couple. I could have done without that blip in the story.

Overall, I love the entire Walsh crew, and Sam and Tiel are officially my favourite couple so far!
